1.1.01.01.001: due regard for the well being of others.

[There is an awkward, stiff cough, and a shot of the eighth floor common room. A young, very smartly dressed, man appears on screen, and he straightens his tie, then offers a small wave,]

Hello!

This remote viewer is tiny, and... well, I never thought a remote viewer could watch you. Fascinating! [He grins, a touch nervously,] So if you're watching, hello! oh, I already said that...

I'm Edward Russett, but you can call me Eddie. I'm not quite sure whether this is the equivalent of Useful Work or a Pointless Task, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Who are the local Prefects? What're they like? I imagine I'll be the Red Prefect here.

[awkward pause whilst he ponders whether to ask or not, then he directs the camera to a lightbulb nearby]

This is going to sound silly, but can I have some lightglobes? There's no natural light in my room. I... [slight nervous intake of breath. Dammit, night terrors.] I need a source of light.

Oh, good. I hate hockeyball. So violent. Much prefer cricket, myself, but that's because I can cheat a little.

I'd really like some, yes. Theta is bringing me some lamps, but the more light the better.

Would you like some merits in return for those? I'm sure I can spare a half.

Merits? I don't know what I'd do with merits...So no. You don't have to give me anything in return for them.

Wait, wait, back up.

You don't have a merit book?

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

Right.

Not even in the world outside of here?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
There are lots of worlds outside of here.

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
...hm, alright. I'd ask what you do instead, but I'll save that for another day, I think.

So there's nobody else here from my world?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I know of, but that's not uncommon. There's no one from my world, either.

Is your world that different to everyone else's?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Substantially different, but not as different as yours seems to be.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think I'm from everyone's future.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Because everyone I've seen looks like the Previous.

Who are definitely from our past.

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
The future can go several different ways. You might be from someone's future, but not from everyone's future.

Yes, I suppose.

I never thought about it like that.

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's alright. It's...something I learned from being here so long.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
How long have you been here?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Almost a year and a half. It seems a lot longer than that sometimes.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
...That is quite a while.

So what are the main dangers here? Ball lightning, giant swans?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
....Giant- nevermind. The main dangers? The Admiral himself. There are floods and ports. Things change that shouldn't change. We land in places that shouldn't exist. As long as you keep alert, though, you should be alright.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Alert. I can do that.

The most dangerous thing is the system itself. Hm. At least you know it.

What do you mean 'things change that shouldn't change'?

Re: private

[identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I know that very well.

Gender. Age. Personality. Those things change.

Re: private

[identity profile] needshumility.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Being aware of it is the most important part.

...No. They can't really do that.
