needshumility: (entitled)
As Victor has duly informed you all, he graduated. Not without considerable effort or thought on his part.

He has spoken for more than I ever could.

I am, however, about to go home. I cannot, truly, stay. I fear I would lose sight of what I have to do, of what I must do. There is a significant part of me which hates to surrender the freedoms I have gained here, but it would be selfish of me to keep those freedoms to myself. There is a whole society which has none of them - and I have to help bring them about.

Which can only bring me to my final note to you all - never take any freedom you have for granted. Never assume it will always be there. Even the inmates amongst you, who I know have less freedom than myself here. Remember, there is a freedom to love, there is a freedom of knowledge, there is a freedom to ask questions, a freedom to know there are questions that need asking, a freedom to tell someone to fuck right off if you want, and a freedom to take your tie off. It's hard to put freedoms down once you know they exist. Often you only notice how few you have when you see how others live.

Sacrifices for the good of the collective.

[Private to Chromie]

I'll leave you all my questionnaires and notes.

[Private to Jane]

I'm going to leave you with my swatch, and instructions. As well as the notes my father left me. You may want to tell a doctor, so they can ensure nothing goes wrong, or if you're unconscious, but I'll leave that choice to you.

Everything else... I'd like to say to you in person.

[Private to George]

Make sure Jane's alright when I'm gone. I'm sorry in advance if she punches you in the nose.

[Warden filter]

Although I'm leaving, my board will be exactly where I left it. Someone else might want to watch for offensive messages on it, though.
needshumility: (where's my red carpet?)
In Mister Spinola's unfortunate absence, I'd like to start work on looking into the disappearances here. If anyone would like to assist me by providing information, I'd like to talk to anyone who:

a) has had a friend, warden or inmate spontaneously disappear without warning. Especially if you've seen it happen
b) has disappeared spontaneously themselves, and returned.
c) has had a friend, warden or inmate disappear deliberately (so I can compare the two events)

There won't be a similar questionnaire on this, as experiences may vary widely. Anyone who wants to help would be most appreciated.

[Warden filter]

Morning.

I was talking to an inmate recently, and then, in the light of... well, the past few events, I was wondering - how much information do we - and should we - provide to inmates?

We have the reports, which are useful and informative, and I'm sure, contain information that we wouldn't want inmates knowing.

But say... those instances when wardens do something wrong, or something happens that's already incredibly public (Doctor Nazarova, for example, or the incident that's just passed) - what should we tell the inmates? Is it okay to say 'something's happened on the first floor'? Is it okay to say 'something's happened on the first floor and three people are hurt'? Is it okay to tell people who those three people are? Is it then okay, if, say, a warden did it, to say 'A warden hurt three people on the first floor and we're punishing them for it'? Is it okay to mention the name of that warden?

I'm not really suggesting anything. I just know there's nothing more annoying than someone saying 'I can't tell you that' and having legitimate questions unanswered. But I've also noticed that... information isn't always freely available; and that's something I only just discovered was a policy about some things (medicine). So I wondered if we had a policy, or at least, any ideas on how much information we provide.

Thoughts, anyone?
needshumility: (go on)
[Eddie is looking a bit miserable and is busy cleaning scratches on his arms and chest. Yes, he's half naked and totally unself-consciously so.]

It somewhat takes the novelty out of being the Last Rabbit when you're not the only one anymore. [He shrugs,] More importantly. Who knew rabbits had claws? [He winces as he cleans another scratch, then pauses what he's doing in thought,]

The Rabbit with the black gunk... was that who I think it is? Don't tell me all of us Eddies were rabbits, that's just strange.

[He shrugs again and goes back to cleaning, muttering under his breath,] Not that strange would be unusual around here.

[After cleaning the last scratch, he gets up with a grin and grabs a picture on his desk, as this was the real reason the camera was on] But look! I got a picture of the barcode! [He shows it to the camera - it's a rabbit's back with a barcode on.]

If anyone wants to learn how to read taxa numbers, next time the CES is home, I can show you. [A generous smile, and then he turns the shot off.]

[Private to Sveta - voice]

Can I ask you something? Did you ask not to work with Victor? It's okay if you did, it's up to you.

It's just I'd rather not humour it, and he's got into this habit of completely avoiding people he thinks there's something wrong with, instead of learning to deal with them. But if you asked not to, I can understand that, and it's fine.

[Private to Victor]

I noticed something, before all that flood. You said to Loki that you would just filter things away from him, like you were doing for Rex.

Avoiding people doesn't make them go away. Especially here.

[Private to Eddie S.]

Right. We should start on some research. I'd like to look into disappearances - which I've got a list of from the reports, but I think, before that, we should get some general information, right?

So if you want to come up with a list of things we should ask about, and I'll do the same. As I imagine they'll be quite different.

[Private to Jane]

Let's do that thing we talked about. In the dark.

Also, it's a shame you didn't change into something... fluffier, or I could have used that.

((ooc: For reference. This Eddie had a BUNNY SCUFFLE! with Eddie B. I can't imagine it got beyond scratchin's, and if anyone wants to claim being the one who broke it all up, that's cool with me. :D))
needshumility: (in cold oxblood)
If anyone has been in a coma recently, and hasn't received a questionnaire from me, let me know, and I can bring you one. I'm... starting to get some decent theories from the replies I've got so far.

Also, Question Club time, I think. Is there anything about this place which anyone would like answering, or looking into? What are... the questions which bother you the most, I suppose.

I probably can't answer, and I don't have the time to look into them all, but someone else might be able to do one or the other.

Far better than when a Blue Prefect is poking around the place.

[Private to Victor]

You can come to my room tonight and we'll go through your last post.

I'd like you to come up with your best predictions of who is who.

[Infirmary filter]

I'd like to take responsibility for the inventory. Sveta's already said it's okay with her. Does anyone else have any objections?

[Private to Rex]

This might sound... a little odd, especially coming from me.

I was wondering what the original intent was behind your nanomites science... if that's what you call it was? I've heard a lot about it, but I'd like to get my information from, um, the source. If possible.

((ooc: Also, this week's morse-code-on-the-pipes book is Alice in Wonderland. Thanks to Hayley.))
needshumility: (red red wine)
I'd like to remind you all to fill in my questionnaire. It's a vitally important process in working out if there's anything we can do about the comas.

If, by any chance, someone hasn't received one, just come by my room, or tell me. I had such a big pile, it's quite possible I thought I'd given you one and I hadn't. [phew.]

I do never want to be Dorian again, though.

Although... does anyone have a camera I can borrow? One where I can do manual length of exposure on it?

[Infirmary filter]

My vision was... strange in that port-event-thing. Whatever you call it.

There were things I knew were red, but I couldn't tell them apart from some things I knew weren't. Mostly things I think are usually green. It's back to normal now, but I'd like to know if anyone can explain that to me.

I imagine Jane might have experienced something similar. [but he's not talking to her, so doesn't know.]

[Private to Victor]

You were the... undertaker, right?

Are you alright?
needshumility: (where's my red carpet?)
THE ENQUIRER. FRIDAY MAY 20th! )

((ooc: Firstly, any inaccuracies/spelling mistakes/syntax errors/terrible grammar is IC and all Eddie's. Including his continual use of 'brutal', his use of words he probably really doesn't understand, and neither will anyone else, and his completely skewed reporting/throwing in opinions willy-nilly. The excuse for my British spelling is that he thinks it makes him sound clever. It doesn't. Oh, and his total failure to ask the important questions. Imagine there's other articles like these throughout his paper.

Also, I took the odd liberty here and there in writing stories, so if anything's not okay/needs changing, let me know and I can retcon.

Croquet, btw, is a canon reference AND the first article that came up when I googled something to put in the sports page. Yeah.

Also, if any Rumour Mill victims want to get back at Eddie, he's mysteriously missed out Miss Summers' craziness and asked her to have tea with him.))
needshumility: (red rum)
I was thinking about perhaps setting up some sort of social event for all you newcomers to the town. At least, all the welcome ones. I'm Eddie Russett, son of Holden Russett [who's crazy rich and lives somewhere that is not. here.], who I'm sure you've heard of.

I also run the paper - the Enquirer - here. Single handedly. [when he says paper. It's a weekly sheet of paper with bits of information on it. Clumsily printed and occasionally misspelt]

If there's anyone with a story to tell, contact me and we can have a chat about making your story come to life. Questions you want answering or asking? I'm your man.

I don't suppose we have any photographers amongst our newest residents, do we?

[Private message to the Mayor]

Mayor Narvin, is it possible to get an interview with you at some point tomorrow? For the paper? Mostly on the subject of the railroad, as I'm sure you can understand the interest in such a thing.

[He also intends to bug you about bandits, but still.]

[Private message to the Marshals]

I've seen all your posters up around town, sirs, and I was wondering if it was possible to ask you a few questions about the man you're looking for. For the paper, you see. The more information out there, the less worry, as I'm sure you're aware.

[Private message to the Sheriff's office (so deputies too)]

Could I borrow one of your gentlemen for a few minutes or so, for a few moments' interview, nothin' more?

Failing that, could I possibly acquire a formal statement on the subject of the rumours of outlaws outside of town? Has anyone been hurt yet? Is it something you're worried about?

((ooc: last minute change from the plotting post. Eddie is now a bumbling, naive rich kid playing at journalism. And he always, always asks too many questions. Feel free to want to have him bumped off/turn down his requests for interviews.

Also, he's conventional colour blind, but he tries to keep it a secret.))
needshumility: (sorry what?)
Alright, I think... question club needs to happen.

So consider this post an open place to ask questions about the Barge, and to provide answers if you know them - or to discuss ways of finding out the answer. Anyone's welcome, as are any questions.

[Private to Bertie]

What instrument do you play?

[Private to Sherlock]

Mr Holmes, may I ask if you can make a request for the art room?

At home, we can paint in full colour without seeing them by using numbered codes.

Would it be possible to get these numbered codes put on the paints provided in the art room?

[Filtered to Jane, Chromie and Ariadne]

I was thinking of working out a standard series of questions for people who've just woken up from comas. To help us try and find patterns - it's easier if we ask for the same information from everyone.

Any suggestions as to the questions?

[Private to Jane]

I've got a book for this week. Ovaltine and the radiators tonight?
needshumility: (dead eyes)
I was wondering. Everyone seems to have a lot of questions and concerns with this place, and I think it's brilliant that... we ask them and look into them. But I was wondering if we could perhaps coordinate this in some way. At home, I suggested a Question Club. Where anyone could come along and ask questions.

Maybe we could benefit from something similar - inmates could have a proper opportunity to ask questions about the wardens, and we could all have chance to air any concerns about the general nature of the Barge. If we kept a note of all the questions, and the answers given, it could help new people when they arrive. We could also try and look into answers we don't know.

Would anyone else be interested in that?

[Warden filter]

[awkward cough]

Um, right. Looks like Doctor Frankenstein has been here quite a while, so I imagine things aren't quite how they were when this file was first written. The last gentleman left some notes, which are most helpful, but...

Well, could I have a word with the wardens of one... Doctor Rex Lewis, and one Miss Amanda Young? There seems to have been some past... difficulty.

Anyone else who knows of any incidents of note with Doctor Frankenstein: I'd like to hear from you too.

I would also like to know who has been giving him technology to disassemble, as he requested.

[Private to Victor]

Well, hello there. I'm Eddie Russett, as you already knew, but you can just call me Eddie, if you like. Can I call you Victor, or would you prefer Doctor Frankenstein?

I've got some things for you, and I'll come down to give them to you and we can talk. If you don't want me to come to your room, we can meet in a common room.

Also, I don't care if you don't want me. You've got me. I might not be the last man you had, but I'm determined to do this properly, fairly and correctly.

[Private to Jane]

So. Danny and Victor.

We won't taupe this up, will we?
needshumility: (go on)
I have a slight question. Do we know if any of the people who could read our posts yesterday can read them now, but just can't reply?

What, exactly, can we guarantee about the privacy of these conversations?

[Warden filter minus the Infirmary staff.]

I was curious about this 'coma' phenomenon, and how it comes about. Who has suffered one, and how long do they usually last?

Would it be plausible to look further into the causes of these comas?

[Private to the Admiral, visible to Jane]

I want to re-arrange my deal. I want Dorian and Imogen Fandango to avoid Reboot. Give them opportunity to escape, somewhere else to go.

[Filtered to Sveta and Martha]

I know, essentially, your medicines are alien to me, but I would like to learn more about your medicines, and I'd like to help where ever I can. If this would be possible, I'd appreciate it.

On that note, I'd like to point out that I'm prepared to administer drugs I know will work to both myself and Jane. I've discussed this with her already, and acquired the swatches I need.

[Private to Holmes.]

Do you happen to have any sheet music from your world?

I'm wondering if there's anything I haven't played before. I've got a good collection of Handel and Vivaldi as it is, but I'd like to try something different.

[Private to Jane]

Do you know morse code?

Also, what's your instrument?
