needshumility: (entitled)
As Victor has duly informed you all, he graduated. Not without considerable effort or thought on his part.

He has spoken for more than I ever could.

I am, however, about to go home. I cannot, truly, stay. I fear I would lose sight of what I have to do, of what I must do. There is a significant part of me which hates to surrender the freedoms I have gained here, but it would be selfish of me to keep those freedoms to myself. There is a whole society which has none of them - and I have to help bring them about.

Which can only bring me to my final note to you all - never take any freedom you have for granted. Never assume it will always be there. Even the inmates amongst you, who I know have less freedom than myself here. Remember, there is a freedom to love, there is a freedom of knowledge, there is a freedom to ask questions, a freedom to know there are questions that need asking, a freedom to tell someone to fuck right off if you want, and a freedom to take your tie off. It's hard to put freedoms down once you know they exist. Often you only notice how few you have when you see how others live.

Sacrifices for the good of the collective.

[Private to Chromie]

I'll leave you all my questionnaires and notes.

[Private to Jane]

I'm going to leave you with my swatch, and instructions. As well as the notes my father left me. You may want to tell a doctor, so they can ensure nothing goes wrong, or if you're unconscious, but I'll leave that choice to you.

Everything else... I'd like to say to you in person.

[Private to George]

Make sure Jane's alright when I'm gone. I'm sorry in advance if she punches you in the nose.

[Warden filter]

Although I'm leaving, my board will be exactly where I left it. Someone else might want to watch for offensive messages on it, though.
needshumility: (get the red tape)
[Eddie is sat in the colour garden. The colours of the flowers should be enough to give normal people headaches. He's got a book open. He's picking through the red flowers, though, and vaguely humming Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific.]

When I look at Univisual Red - that's the artificial stuff - it's not just looking at Red. It's memories of a musical, of [slight pause] your parents. Of a family pet.

[He stops looking at them, because that's driving him nuts.] Sensory overload in a way.

Other colours produced are similar, you hear classical music when you take Green. It makes looking at a piece of art produced in Univisual paint... something to be experienced.

Someone recently told me that this is... unusual for the Previous. It's called, um, synesthesia. It's quite fascinating to read about, actually. I was wondering if anyone here had experienced this.

[Private to Jane]

I forgot to tell you two things. If you're not busy.

[Infirmary filter]

Hi. Just a quick note to say that Victor's said he'd much prefer to work in the engine room. I said he could, so... if they want him, I'm going to have to pull him from your staff. Hope this isn't a problem.

[Engine room wardens.]

My inmate - Victor Frankenstein - expressed an interest in working in the engine room. I know he's not, ah, got a great track record with machines, but I presume you teach him safety and all these things, so it might do him some good. More than anything, he's very interested in doing it and quite trustworthy.

[Private to Victor]

I contacted both the infirmary and engine room about you wanting to change work. I'll let you know what they say.

I also had a favour to ask.
needshumility: (where's my red carpet?)
[Backdated to just before the end of the flood]

...I hate this flood. I really, really hate this flood.

[PRIVATE TO SVETA]

How. How do you put up with her? How?

She's more demanding than Violet. Than Violet's mother! Than... GAH. [just frustration and then....

Oh, it's over.]

Come get your inmate. Please. Please.

[Private to Jane]

I am entirely fed up and am going to get tauping Limed.

Are you joining me?

Petronilla is crazier than... she's just crazy!
needshumility: (go on)
[Eddie is looking a bit miserable and is busy cleaning scratches on his arms and chest. Yes, he's half naked and totally unself-consciously so.]

It somewhat takes the novelty out of being the Last Rabbit when you're not the only one anymore. [He shrugs,] More importantly. Who knew rabbits had claws? [He winces as he cleans another scratch, then pauses what he's doing in thought,]

The Rabbit with the black gunk... was that who I think it is? Don't tell me all of us Eddies were rabbits, that's just strange.

[He shrugs again and goes back to cleaning, muttering under his breath,] Not that strange would be unusual around here.

[After cleaning the last scratch, he gets up with a grin and grabs a picture on his desk, as this was the real reason the camera was on] But look! I got a picture of the barcode! [He shows it to the camera - it's a rabbit's back with a barcode on.]

If anyone wants to learn how to read taxa numbers, next time the CES is home, I can show you. [A generous smile, and then he turns the shot off.]

[Private to Sveta - voice]

Can I ask you something? Did you ask not to work with Victor? It's okay if you did, it's up to you.

It's just I'd rather not humour it, and he's got into this habit of completely avoiding people he thinks there's something wrong with, instead of learning to deal with them. But if you asked not to, I can understand that, and it's fine.

[Private to Victor]

I noticed something, before all that flood. You said to Loki that you would just filter things away from him, like you were doing for Rex.

Avoiding people doesn't make them go away. Especially here.

[Private to Eddie S.]

Right. We should start on some research. I'd like to look into disappearances - which I've got a list of from the reports, but I think, before that, we should get some general information, right?

So if you want to come up with a list of things we should ask about, and I'll do the same. As I imagine they'll be quite different.

[Private to Jane]

Let's do that thing we talked about. In the dark.

Also, it's a shame you didn't change into something... fluffier, or I could have used that.

((ooc: For reference. This Eddie had a BUNNY SCUFFLE! with Eddie B. I can't imagine it got beyond scratchin's, and if anyone wants to claim being the one who broke it all up, that's cool with me. :D))
needshumility: (funny)
I would... uh, like to try some of these drinks in the pub. I've never... smelled anything like this before, let alone seen.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Or... warnings.

[Private to Victor]

If you've got the lists, I can get your meat.

[Warden filter]

How many of you have, at home, positions of authority?

[pause] No, I worded that wrong. Let me specify.

By authority, I mean the ability to make judgements on people - pass punishments or rewards. Not authority like a Yell... uh, policeman, but more like a Prefect. I don't really know what your equivalent is, sorry.

Does anyone's inmate have a similar position of authority at home? [big pause] Can anyone tell me if they're here for abusing that authority?

[Private to Jane]

...God is like Munsell.

Are we agreed on this, because it's the best thing I can think of to describe it? Bertie had a very good analogy with the spoons.

I still don't understand the afterlife.

On another note: They knew what an Ishihara was, but I think it might just be for doctors to know. I also have a plan.
needshumility: (in cold oxblood)
If you met my dad?

I've got nothing to apologise for, or be angry about, or curse his name for. I just hope you liked him. He's a good Swatchman.

[Warden filter, minus infirmary staff, and Narvin.]

A certain... recent incidents have made me wonder something.

Does anyone come from a world where it's acceptable to kill others if they're going to die a potentially long, drawn out, horrific death? By which I mean kill using medicinal means, with given permission and consent. Not just... using a instant-kill-gun and shooting them.

Also, I will consider anyone who informs my inmate that I asked this question as officially undermining my position.

On another note, does anyone have an inmate who's left and then returned?

[Private to Jane]

Do not mention the Green Room. Especially to Victor.

Also, Scarlet Pimpernel?

[Private to Victor]

Alright. Let's discuss Rex.

[Private to Rex]

Would you mind if I asked you a few questions about Victor?

[Coma-investigation Filter]

I'm working on a questionnaire right now. I'll have something ready very soon. Looks like we need it.
needshumility: (go on)
So... that was a flood.

It all seemed so harmless at first, but it quickly went downhill, didn't it?

I've got a question for you, actually. [Eddie disappears off screen, and comes back with a little piece of card, then holds it up to the camera. The card is a square of orange, much like a paint sample swatch,]

Is this, 37-87-97, the colour of a carrot? Or pumpkin, or apricot? Is it about right?

[Friend filter - Bertie, the Doctor, anyone else he's said 'friend?' to. This is probably the same people as before.]

There was talk a bit back about cricket. I don't suppose anyone's interested in a game still?

[Private to Jane]

I'm so, so sorry I didn't come and get you. I... I didn't think anything I could do would work, and he was trying to lure hero-types out, and I'm beigeing well not a hero-type, but I couldn't come up with a plan that worked so...

Yes. Sorry. Are you hurt?

[pause, he knows how she's going to answer whether she is or not,]

I'll come down. I wanted to talk to you anyway.

[Private to Victor]

Right. I've got something for you to do. Do it, and properly, and I'll give you twenty merits.
needshumility: (go on)
I have a slight question. Do we know if any of the people who could read our posts yesterday can read them now, but just can't reply?

What, exactly, can we guarantee about the privacy of these conversations?

[Warden filter minus the Infirmary staff.]

I was curious about this 'coma' phenomenon, and how it comes about. Who has suffered one, and how long do they usually last?

Would it be plausible to look further into the causes of these comas?

[Private to the Admiral, visible to Jane]

I want to re-arrange my deal. I want Dorian and Imogen Fandango to avoid Reboot. Give them opportunity to escape, somewhere else to go.

[Filtered to Sveta and Martha]

I know, essentially, your medicines are alien to me, but I would like to learn more about your medicines, and I'd like to help where ever I can. If this would be possible, I'd appreciate it.

On that note, I'd like to point out that I'm prepared to administer drugs I know will work to both myself and Jane. I've discussed this with her already, and acquired the swatches I need.

[Private to Holmes.]

Do you happen to have any sheet music from your world?

I'm wondering if there's anything I haven't played before. I've got a good collection of Handel and Vivaldi as it is, but I'd like to try something different.

[Private to Jane]

Do you know morse code?

Also, what's your instrument?
needshumility: (red eye)
[Private to the Admiral]

Can I have three things delivered to my room, please?

1) A Travelling Swatch, like my father's. One of each colour is necessary, but exclude the Greed. Or things will go straight to brown.

2) One merit book, uncoloured and empty.

3) One valise, also empty, and with a lock.

Thank you in advance.

p.s. if some more lightglobes are possible, I would be grateful.
