If you met my dad?

I've got nothing to apologise for, or be angry about, or curse his name for. I just hope you liked him. He's a good Swatchman.

[Warden filter, minus infirmary staff, and Narvin.]

A certain... recent incidents have made me wonder something.

Does anyone come from a world where it's acceptable to kill others if they're going to die a potentially long, drawn out, horrific death? By which I mean kill using medicinal means, with given permission and consent. Not just... using a instant-kill-gun and shooting them.

Also, I will consider anyone who informs my inmate that I asked this question as officially undermining my position.

On another note, does anyone have an inmate who's left and then returned?

[Private to Jane]

Do not mention the Green Room. Especially to Victor.

Also, Scarlet Pimpernel?

[Private to Victor]

Alright. Let's discuss Rex.

[Private to Rex]

Would you mind if I asked you a few questions about Victor?

[Coma-investigation Filter]

I'm working on a questionnaire right now. I'll have something ready very soon. Looks like we need it.

[Rex chuckled, an unpleasant laugh to himself.]

Oh yes, his reasons. I merely gave him an experience that was long overdue. If he's going to judge 'monsters,' he should at least come to it with the understanding of what it's like to be one. [He smirked.] Or are his "reasons" the fact that that I was one of the few who didn't accept the patronizing, insulting 'apology' he sent to us freaks. Funny, the only people who were impressed were the ones he hadn't treated like animals.

[Eddie paused, and tried to see through the tone to the actual issue there,]

I didn't hear anything about this apology. When did this happen?

[He was wondering if he could at least read it for himself.]

But did you think returning abuse with... abuse would have actually solved anything? Doesn't it just fester grudges longer?

In December. [Rex pulled out his communicator and began pushing buttons.] And I gave him no more or less than what he deserved. Whatever his feelings, I couldn't care less. My plan was to depart the Barge when it was all finished and never be bothered by his presence again.

Ah. [He pulled up the entry, along with their particular exchange, and handed the communicator over to Eddie.] There.

[Eddie nodded, not really letting his immediate feelings known on the first subject just yet, instead reading the conversation and post. He can tell, just from reading Rex's tone and responses that he has to be very careful what he says next. He wants to do something about the dispute between them, and even if he hasn't thought about what yet, he knows he could ruin it all right here.]

You do have a point. The way it is... listed off like that implies to me that he was told to do it. Which does, you're right, remove the original sincerity behind it to some extent.

[He paused carefully,] I can see why you would be angry at the implied tone. I understand that. But... equally, I think the long standing grudge has... it's not good for either of you, for it to keep going and going. You'll just keep abusing each other and getting abused, and who does that help?

[Rex dropped the nonchalant act, stiffening as he shot a glare Eddie's way.] There was no sincerity to it. And it's not implied-- he admitted as much in another conversation. His warden asked him to do it.

Then tell him to stay away from me. It's what he should have been doing all this time.

I hadn't read that far. [Eddie gives him a stiff, formal nod,] I will, but I hadn't.

If you want me to, I will, but I want you to do the same to him. Don't try and teach him lessons, don't try and punish him or scare him off. The first two are my job, and the other isn't how things work.

[He paused and handed Rex his communicator back, intending to read the rest in private, if nothing else,] But I won't tolerate an insincere apology, and I won't ask for them in return for... [He's a little confused by brownie points, but maybe Rex isn't the best person to ask,] favours.

I had my moment of fun. As far as I'm concerned, I'm finished with him. All harassment is coming from his end.

[Oh Rex, SO INNOCENT. He accepted his communicator and pocketed it.] Good. Then you're already a step ahead of his last warden.

I'll be talking to him at some length too. But I'd quite like this to be finished on everyone's end. [Slightly implying he didn't think it was on Rex's.]

If you get an apology from him, it won't be because I've sent him.

You should know: the last time a warden told him to leave me alone, he started harassing me in private.

[Rex shrugged.] I'm not expecting anything.

[Eddie nodded,] I'll bear it in mind.

[He got to his feet,] Thank you for your input. I appreciate you talking to me about it.

Of course.

[And Rex got to his feet, too, FOR HIS not so GRAND EXIT.

[Eddie stuck out his hand, a little optimistically, to shake, but the rules of politeness told him he must,] Again, thank you, Doctor Lewis. [He still couldn't quite get used to 'doctor' as a title, and he certainly didn't trust it.]

[Rex accepted the gesture, shaking Eddie's hand, totally unaware of how suspicious his title might have seemed.] You're welcome-- [And then he realized that he didn't know the other man's surname, so he left it at that and walked stiffly out of the room.]
